Deda and I are the citizens of Russia. We share a surname and a family. Our experiences of the world, however, are alien to each other. He lived to witness the Second World War, as well as Soviet Regime and it's breakdown. He seldom speaks of the war and the years of desperate struggle under the totalitarian regime. Behind this cheeky smile hides thousands of stories he is yet to share with me. These photo series celebrate my grand father's strength of character and the energy he managed to keep up as his age approaches the mark of 84 years old.
